2022 Scottish Schools

Eligibility

You need to be in secondary education in Scotland on 1 January 2022 to be eligible.

There are three age groups over 16, under 16  and U14. We will run events in epee, sabre and foil and for women and men.

We aim to run every event.

For over and under 16 these will only run as mixed if numbers are low (less than 5) and fencers agree they are happy to fence a mixed gender poule. After the poules we will split the DE’s will be split into women and men’s events.

For each of the top fencers (women and men) who compete in all three weapons for their age category there are trophies. So two trophies for U14, U16 and over 16 age categories.

There is also a trophy for best school. (Note on sport80 please enter using your usual club. We will collect school information at check in).

Over 16

·        You need to be under 19 on 1 January 2022

·        16 or over on the 1 January 2022

Under 16

·        You need to be under 16 on 1 January 2022

·        You need to 14 or over on 1 January 2022

Under 14

·        You need to be under 14 on 1 January 2022

·        You need to be 11 or over on 1 January 2022

You need to have a valid  competitive membership to British Fencing.

Entries cost £25. There is a discount code for anyone wishing to enter all three weapons (ALL3FES) which will give you a third off all entry fees so you can enter three events for the price of two.

Entries Close 8 June we will accept late entries at £40 until 15 June. We will not accept entries after then.

Social Media

If you as parent or guardian of an entrant aged under 18 or if you as a fencer aged over 18 object to Scottish Fencing posting photos and videos on social media please inform us at admin@scottish-fencing.com Please also inform DT on the day when you check in.

Schedule

This is a guide - we will confirm exact start times for each event once entries close and we know how many competitors there are for each event:

·        Foil Saturday first event(s) 10.30am start

·        Epee Sunday Morning - first event(s) 9.30 am start

·        Sabre Sunday afternoon

As a guide to allow for setting up of scoring equipment and marking out of pistes the foil on Saturday will start at 10.30am. Fencers can access the hall from 9.30 to warm up. It will be a great help If there are any adults (parents or coaches) who can help with set up on the morning as this will enable us to have a prompt start at 10.30am.

Epee will start at 9.30 Sunday morning with access from the hall from 9am. Sabre will start Sunday afternoon. Sabre start times will allow fencers entered in the epee to compete in the sabre as well.

We will publish exact times for each age group once entries close and we know numbers.

·        800N or 350N Plastron

·        Size 3 Foils or below

NO Lame bib or Mask wire required

 

U16 AND Over 16

·        800N Plastron

·        350N Mask, Jacket and Breeches

·        Size 5 Foils or below

All competitors must have a Lame bib and Mask wires

 

EPEE

U14

·        800N or 350N Plastron

·        350N Mask, Jacket and Breeches

·        Size 2 Epees or below

 

U16 AND Over 16

·        800N Plastron

·        350N Mask, Jacket and Breeches

·        Size 5 Epees or below

 

SABRE

U14

·        800N or 350N Plastron

·        350N Mask, Jacket and Breeches

·        800N Sabre Glove

·        Size 2 Sabres or below

 

U16 AND Over 16

The FIE standard chest protectors (those covered with an FIE approved soft layer) for Foil are NOT required for this event

 

For all age groups:

·          All fencers must wear fencing breeches.

·          Come dressed in kit – there are limited changing facilities

·          All women/girls must wear a chest protector.

·          All equipment must be in good condition and fit reasonably and in a way that does not disadvantage the fencer’s opponent. It is the fencer’s (their parent’s or coach’s) responsibility to ensure they are properly equipped.

·          Long socks must be worn (pulled up).

·          Referees may test weapons before fights.

·          Fencers should have two bodywires, mask wires, two weapons

Welfare

If you have any concerns for a young person’s welfare at this event please email Liz Anderson, Welfare Officer for the event on liz.anderson@scottish-fencing.com or 07803 207349 if it’s urgent. You can contact the Welfare Officer before, during and after the event if something occurs to you that raises any concerns.

Refunds

We will only refund anyone who cannot fence due to COVID or if we cancel events due to low numbers.

Cafe

There is a cafe, run by volunteers from West Lothian Fencing Club. This will have hot and cold drinks, filled rolls, snacks and homebaking on sale..
