Club Resources
There is a range of different types of resources available to help support your club. A few examples are below to support clubs with looking at what they do as a club and how they can focus their time and efforts to get the best out of what they are trying to achieve. Furthermore all of these (and more) clubs can be supported with through contacting Scottish Fencing’s Club and Community Development Manager - Daniel Baker on daniel.baker@scottish-fencing.com
Results/Outcomes Pyramid
The idea of this exercise, is to get several key people in the club responsible for the club’s ongoing development (coaches/committee members/members etc.) to come up with either 10 or 15 key statements of things the club does well. Then the idea is for the individual people to take those key statements and put them into a pyramid (see example document). From this, you would then have all the people asked to do this to compare their pyramids and statements and come up with a collective pyramid for the top 6 statements that is best reflective of everyone who completed their own - this in a sense creates the ability for the club to identify and focus on specific key areas that everyone has highlighted.
Community mapping
In today’s world as a sports club, having a knowledge and understanding of your community is vital to help in supporting the efforts your club is making to be as open and inclusive as possible - while meeting the needs and supporting your community. Having an understanding of who and what you could potential tap into as a club in your area can help support the club and build strong connections with those in the your local community. The purpose of community mapping is:
Build an understating that every community has strengths
Identify potential partners so that we can identify gaps in provision and solve problems
See the example here and some of the steps involved in this exercise. This can be further developed on by utilising technology (such as Google Maps) to create a more visual an interactive map of your local community that can act as a reference point - particularly for identifying those potential partners in the area. Get in touch and have a chat with Daniel if this is something your club would like to explore!!
