Junior Team Selection Criteria:

  • The primary tool for selection for the Junior team will be the GB Junior ranking list at 1st April 2018.  The top 3 Scottish fencers on the GB rankings for each weapon will be automatic selections, provided they are in the top 75% of those fencers with points on that ranking.

Cadet Team Selection Criteria:

  • The primary tool for selection for the Cadet team will be the GB Cadet ranking list at 1st April 2018.  The top 3 Scottish fencers on the GB rankings for each weapon will be automatic selections, provided they are in the top 75% of those fencers with points on that ranking.

General Selection Criteria:

  • Remaining selections will be discretionary and decided by a panel of Selectors.  The Selection panel will exercise their discretion based upon factors including, but not limited to, ranking, performance (Senior/Junior/Cadet), experience, fitness or injury status and potential.
  • Fencers must not have been disqualified from selection on disciplinary grounds.
  • Automatic selections and the decisions made by the Selection Panel will be passed to the SF Board for ratification before announcement.
  • At the end of the selection period, fencers will be invited to declare their availability for selection.  Fencers will be responsible for providing all relevant information in support of discretionary selection.
  • It will be the responsibility of any fencer whose ranking has been adversely affected by an inability to compete to inform the Scottish Fencing Director for Team Selection and to demonstrate their fitness prior to selection.

Appeals:

  • The only grounds for appeal will be either a material inaccuracy in the rankings used for selection or the incorrect application of this stated selection policy.  Fencers are responsible for reporting ranking inaccuracies to the specific weapon ranking co-ordinator.  Any such appeal should be made in writing to the Scottish Fencing Administrator at the Scottish Fencing office within two weeks of the publication of the relevant rankings on the British Fencing website.  Appeals will be decided by the Scottish Fencing Board whose decision shall be final.
  • It will be the responsibility of any fencer whose ranking has been adversely affected by an inability to compete to inform the Scottish Fencing Director for Team Selection and may be asked to demonstrate their fitness prior to selection.
