2018 Scottish Fencing Sport Development Report

Scottish Fencing is today publishing the findings of a recent consultation exercise, conducted by the sports consultancy “Growing Sport”.

The Consultancy was tasked to gather feedback and offer recommendations around four key areas of: Membership growth, SwordMark, Club Development and Talent Development.

This information was sought as Scottish Fencing is currently drafting a strategic plan with a timeframe up to 2025. The recommendations from today’s published report will form the core of this strategy and as mentioned will be available for member consultation over the next couple of months.

The report offers a significant series of recommendations to improve the sport of Fencing in Scotland and the organisation of Scottish Fencing as a governing body.  The attached documents show the recommendations in a summary with the larger document the full report in its entirety.

Pam Scott, former Scottish Hockey CEO, conducted the conversations and analysis.  Pam has over 30 years experience within the sports environment in Scotland including senior management positions at RYA Scotland, Scottish Gymnastics and sportscotland.

George Liston, Scottish Fencing’s Chairperson said “We are extremely grateful to Pam for undertaking the exercise and of course sportscotland for their support which allowed the consultation to happen. The findings and recommendations are extensive.  We will spend time as a board to decide how we can action these and where they will fit within our proposed new strategy. Our aim is to have this  with members for consultation within a couple of months.”
