Inverclyde Open 2013: 6 weapon tournament and team matches

Edinburgh Fencing Club (www.edinburghfencingclub.co.uk) is pleased to invite you to take part in the2013 Inverclyde Open. Set in a beautiful, licensed sports complex in the countryside, with a Saturday night Ceilidh (Scottish Dance) and visiting foreign fencers, Inverclyde Open is one of the season's most enjoyable fixtures.

Friday 31st May 2013: 3 weapon mixed team matches

Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June: 6 weapon individual open tournament

Edinburgh Leisure's Performance Access Scheme 2012/13

Scottish Fencing has received an invitation to nominate members to take part in Edinburgh Leisure's Performance Access Scheme 2012/13 for promising athletes. Details of the scheme and the benefits it offers appear on

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • resident in Edinburgh or training in Edinburgh;
  • age in the range 8 to 25 years;
  • application endorsed by the sport's Scottish governing body.

Piers Jones Obituary

We regret to report the recent passing of Piers Jones, a past president of both Scottish Fencing and the Commonwealth Fencing Federation.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday 17th December at Holy Trinity Church, Stirling (Dumbarton Road,behind Albert Hall) at 1.30 pm.  All are welcome.

Obituary - Patrick Mitchell

Edinburgh Fencing Club is very sad to announce that Patrick Mitchell, who coached our Wednesday Sabre Cadet class, died last weekend after a short Illness.

Patrick was our coach in charge of sabre every Wednesday for quite a few years and his class was very popular with our cadets. Our thoughts are with his wife and daughters and he will be very much missed at club.

Sportscotland Elite Athlete Funding Grants


As a result of significant changes in the GB Fencing World Class Programme and some additional funds becoming available I am pleased to announce that we are re-opening the application process for awards for 2011/12.
