Development Grants - 2016 update and launch of 17 – 18 programme

Scottish Fencing is pleased to highlight some of the great work carried out by member clubs with support from the grant scheme during 2016/17. Salle Ossian, Shetland Fencing Club, ActiFence and Aberdeen Fencing Club ran beginners courses and competitions for new fencers, resulting in over 70 new members joining Scottish Fencing.

PVG and Disclosure Checks

In light of the recent report into historical abuse in Scottish football, sportScotland has updated their advice on good governance in respect of PVG checks.

As a result Scottish Fencing would ask all members who are coaching or volunteering at their clubs to PVG through Scottish Fencing, even if they are already part of a scheme through an alternative source.

There is no cost to this. Please email Liz and we will send you a form and instructions on what to do once your form is filled in.

Club Development Officers - Car's resignation

At the end of April, Car Stevenson resigned from her post of National Development Officer. Scottish Fencing hopes that Car carries on in a coaching capacity in the West of Scotland so that she can pass on her wealth of knowledge and experience in Sabre to youngsters in the area.

The Board recognises her work with Positive Coaching Scotland in establishing seminars for parents, her contributions to developing the Equality action plan and her efforts supporting clubs with Swordmark accreditation.
